THE IDEA BEHIND LIGHTSOUT

More context. Easier connections.

Knowing someone is nearby is only part of the picture. LightsOut brings proximity and activity status together so you can decide when to connect.

Distance

Your location helps calculate how far away visible users and venues are. Radius lets you adjust the area you explore.

Status

Activity updates and your selected socializing status help friends understand whether you are active, inactive, or out socializing.

Control

You choose your visibility and can block or report other users.

Our patent background

The patented technology describes using GPS coordinate changes and sensor information, including a gyroscope, to assess movement over time and derive an activity level. That activity information can influence how people appear in the grid and which contact methods are available.

Korean patent 10-2084506, registered on February 27, 2020, is titled “Acquaintance management service providing method, mobile terminal, service server, and application.” Ross Kim is listed as a co-inventor.

The patent describes using device activity information to represent people in a grid, with visual presentation and available contact methods responding to activity levels. This provides the background to LightsOut’s focus on seeing people’s activity at a glance. The current app presents nearby users with distance and activity status; the patent also describes additional implementations.
